The 20th.of October 2005 witnessed the sad and untimely demise of ‘A legend forever’,Datin Paduka Seri Endon Binti Dato’Mahmood Ambak,beloved wife of our Honourable ex-Prime Minister, YAB Dato’Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad. Her pure fervor and painstaking endeavour in not only ensuring that ‘Batik’,’Songket’and the Sarong Kebaya;are firmly entrenched in Malaysian life but are also well-known,accepted and respected on the global patform. To me as a Art studeng In University Education Of Sultan Idris honestly thankfull to her. Rare important people take care about traditional heritage like Batik.
Datin Paduka Seri Endon binti Mahmood Ambak acknowledging her support and contributions to BATIK in Malaysia and overseas. The achievement begins her overall love for Malaysian heritage and her special affinity towards BATIK. The current predilections and future trends of BATIK are also covered in her life.The life and times of Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, her love for Malysian heritage, and particulary the achievement and sues she attained in rekindling a love for BATIK firmly at the forefront of the global fashion and fabric platform have been not only interesting but sufficiently significant and inspirational to warrant about her who i admirer is.
Datin Seri Endon initially travelled the globe with her husband,when the nation’s Foreign Affair Minister. She always made it a point to wear BATIK. She strongly supported the promotion of the BATIK industry in particular and arts and crafts in general. Datin Seri Endon is credited with reviving the Malaysian Batik,songket and nyoya kebaya sigle-handedly.
She was such an inpriration to other that a set of specially designed stamps featuring competition winners created by POS MALAYSIA was by our Honourable ex-Prime Minister, Dato’Seri Abdullah bin Haji Ahmad Badawi in the first week of Desember last year at ‘Malaysia Batik Week 2005’. She also is certainly one of the legasie left behind by her and is currently under the direction of puan Leela Mohd Ali, the Chief Executive Officer of YAYASAN BUDI PEYANYANG(PEYAYANG). The community service-based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) was founded and chaired by Datin Seri Endon.
The’Piala Seri Endon’ Which is divided into three categories(Handicraft, soft Funishing ang Fashion) is supported by The Star,Royal Selangor, YTL Group, Torism Malysia and Shopping Secretariat.
YAB TUN’ Seri Abdullah bin Haj Ahmad Badawi also launched a performing arts award scholarship at the same event,’Malaysian Batik Week 2005’.
Even when Datin Seri Endon was around,she was still such a big inspiration to everyone and MARDI even named a new orchid after her. The particular orchid was given the name ‘Mokara Datin Seri Endon’ and this gesture certainly brought a cheer to her heart. Datin Seri Endon is also credited with coining the catch-phare,’Malyisan Batik-Crafted For The World.’ Our Honorable Prime Minister contributed his part towards the slogan by suggesting the word’Malaysian’be changed to ‘Malaysia’ since he said involved a branding exercise.thank Datin to caring ART.
